Irene Gómez-Calado, a conductor from Seville (Spain), is recognized as one of the most promising figures of her generation on the international music scene. She received her training at renowned European institutions such as the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla, the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt in Paris, and the Sorbonne University, studying with maestros like Paavo Järvi. She has also participated in masterclasses led by figures such as Neeme Järvi and Jorma Panula.
Her versatility and command of a broad repertoire—encompassing opera, symphony, and ballet—have allowed her to build a successful career both in Spain and abroad. At the age of 29, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, confirming her status as an artist with great potential. She has worked in major theaters and concert halls, such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Maestranza in Seville, the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, and the Auditorio de Tenerife, among others, and has participated in prestigious festivals like the Cuenca Religious Music Week, the Materadio Music Festival in Italy, and the Pärnu Music Festival in Estonia.
Her professional experience includes serving as assistant to Maestro Paavo Järvi at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where she worked on opera (such as Don Giovanni), symphonic, and ballet repertoire. She was also an assistant conductor in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Teatro Maestranza in Seville. Irene has conducted prominent orchestras in Spain, Italy, France, and Germany, including the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi.
Gómez-Calado has received numerous honors, including being a finalist in the IV Córdoba Orchestra Conducting Competition (2016) and receiving the Woman Opera Makers scholarship from the Aix-en-Provence Festival. She was also selected as an assistant conductor for the Orquesta de las Grandes Escuelas de París (2015/2016). Her reputation has led to recent invitations as assistant musical director at the Ópera de Tenerife and the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine for the 2025/2026 season.
Currently, Irene Gómez-Calado is the principal conductor of the Sociedad Filarmónica Nuestra Señora de la Oliva in Salteras, Seville, and continues to spearhead dynamic projects that foster young talent. Her career reflects an unwavering commitment to musical excellence and innovative interpretation.
